Science Fair for young inventors at MSA, from all over Egypt
 



October University for Modern Sciences and Arts held the National Science Fair on Saturday 10th April 2010, with overwhelming success for the second year in a row, for the young inventors who presented more than 100 projects which exceeded all expectations of the judging panel as well as all spectators. All projects showed a cutting edge of creativity and inherent talents for all this age group from 9-18 years old who represented more than 20 schools from around Egyptian governorates like Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Daqahlia, Port Said, Helwan and 6th October. The judging panel consisted of 45 members of high calibers of scientists, professors from various universities and quiet a few education experts who evaluated the contestants projects subjectively and appreciated their creativity.

The first placement winner was Amira Mady from Victory College for Girls in Alexandria. The prize was a full scholarship from MSA to officially represent Egypt in (I-SWEEP 2011) contest in Houston in USA. Her project was summed up in transforming sign language into an audible sound and vice-versa. This system could be used on computers and on mobile phones to facilitate communication between the blind people and those who are deaf and mute.
The second placement winner was Ahmed Al Shinawy from Dar El Tarbiah American School in Cairo. He was awarded full scholarship from MSA to represent Egypt officially in (I SWEEP 2011) contest in Houston in USA. His project was to use genetically altered bacteria to purify the sewage water and to generate power from it.
Third placement winner, Belal Magdy from El Mahmoudia Secondary School for boys went to Istanbul in Turkey to participate in the (18th IN EXPO). His project was an advanced life guard suit that sends vibrations and signals to expel sharks and also to retain body temperature. It also includes a navigation system to guide destinations and accurately locate the site of its user using satellite technology.

As for the fourth placement it went to Ahmed Khaled from Sidi Gaber Secondary School in Alexandria to go to Istanbul, Turkey to participate in (18th IN EXPO). His project a very innovative Aqua Green House which is going to be set on the sea surface and would depend on the desalination projects.
MSA offered a sum of more than 200,000 EGP. The big surprise was the 7 years old children who took part in that contest. In general the kind of scientific projects showed high standard of awareness which lead to a well developed and advanced achievements.

Dr Nawal El Degwi, head of the Board of Trustees, stated that, "MSA's initiative to adopt this contest coincides with its role to support and subsidize the Scientific Research not only in its academic stages for undergraduates and post graduates but also extends it to hold and cherish the youngsters during the elementary stages, which eventually would lead to enhancing the scientific research in Egypt in general. "
