Mechatronics Systems Engineering (MSE) Program

Program Aims:

The aim of the Mechatronics program is to produce graduates with the core skills, knowledge and attributes that will help them excel as professional engineers. These skills and attributes include: the ability to formulate and solve problems; a creative approach to design and synthesis; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in teams; appreciation of the environmental, social and business contexts of Engineering; independent and self-motivated approach; understanding and commitment to lifelong learning; and in-depth technical competence in the field of Mechatronics Engineering. Opportunities exist in the rapidly developing fields of micro/Nano electromechanical systems, digital electronics, information technology, robotic systems, manufacturing industry, aerospace industry, mining industry, health industry, asset and maintenance management etc. where mechanical and electrical engineers are traditionally employed. Whenever there is a need to develop and use engineering systems/products/processes based on integrating mechanical components with electrical and electronic components, through software and hardware, there will be career opportunities for mechatronic engineers.

Prof. Mostafa Zaki - Mechatronics systems engineering DepartmentOur Mechatronics Students, on behalf of the mechatronics staff members, We welcome you in the department of mechatronics. The staff are proud to have distinguished students that possess the eagerness and spirit to grow and develop like you. We will do our best to enrich, foster and pioneered you in education, learning, research and community service in MSA among all the universities locally, regionally and internationally. The Mechatronics programme combines courses in mechanical engineering and electrical and electronic engineering together with courses in computing, mechatronics and robotics. It includes the study of design, microprocessors, electronics, sensors, actuators, signal processing and control. There is a strong focus on design and individual/group project work throughout the program. Each student will be able to develop basic skills in Knowledge base for engineering and problem analysis; show ability to conduct investigations of complex problems, to design solutions for complex, open-ended engineering problems and to use engineering tools; ability to work effectively as a member and leader in teams, and to communicate complex engineering concepts within the profession and with society at large; ability of understanding the roles and responsibilities of the professional engineer in society, and to analyze social and environmental aspects of engineering activities; ability to apply professional ethics, accountability, and equity, and to appropriately incorporate economics and business practices including project, risk, and change management into the practice of engineering and to understand their limitations; ability to identify and to address the educational needs in a changing world in ways sufficient to maintain the competence and to allow each student to contribute to the advancement of knowledge Prof. Mostafa Zaki.

An Overview of the Program:

The program includes a number of courses and each course has a specific weight in credit hours. - On average, each course has a weight of 3 credit hours.
- In addition to the first year as being a general year to all programs, the advancement through the program courses is distributed progressively throughout the four-year plan.
- Students cannot register for a course unless the course’s prerequisites are met.
- In order for a student to graduate from the program, he/she has to successfully complete all the required courses for this program plus the general year, with a total of 168 credit hours.
- Students can complete all required credit hours over a minimum of 4 years when enrolled for 2 semesters each year, Fall and Spring. The Summer semester is optional and offered for a limited number of courses.
