Tourette syndrome awareness

MSA MWHO UNICEF committee held an amazing campaign with the aim of increasing awareness about Tourette syndrome which is a neurological condition that causes something called tics. Tics are involuntary, repetitive movements and sounds.

Some of the Fast facts that were presented included:

  • TS affects around 1 in 100 children
  • The cause of Tourette Syndrome is unknown but it can be genetic.
  • Tics come & go & increase & decrease with Intensity.
  • Tourette Syndrome is very different for every person who has it.
  • It affects boys more often than girls & usually starts between the ages of 2 and 21
  • Coprolalia (the swearing tic) is very rare, only 20% of people will Tourette Syndrome actually has it.
  • People with TS often have other conditions like ADHD, OCD & Anxiety.
  • There is no cure yet for TS

Awareness, understanding, and kindness are the greatest tools we have in helping people with TS to live productive, successful, and happy lives.

Good luck to MSA MWHO team, and we wish you all the best!
