A visit to Fayoum Governorate

As a part of the cooperation protocol conducted between El-Fayoum Governorate and October University for Modern Sciences and Arts - MSA.

A delegation from the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts -MSA headed by Prof. Dr./ Tarek Saleh - Head of the Center for Scientific Excellence and Entrepreneurship at the university and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design visited El-Fayoum Governorate, where the delegation met Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari - Governor of Fayoum and reviewed the features of the visual identity of El-Fayoum Governorate through its relative characteristics and unique natural environments, to improve the cultural and aesthetic dimensions of the governorate, making it a special character and a destination for visitors nationally and internationally, in implementation of the cooperation protocol conducted between the governorate and the university during the month of October to fully implement a visual identity for the governorate.

 

This came during the meeting that has been held in the General Court of El-Fayoum Governorate, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Emad - Deputy Governor, Dr. Mohamed El Touny - Governor’s Assistant, and the delegation of the Faculty of Arts and Design, which included Dr. Iman Osama - Head of the Graphics and Media Arts Department, and Dr. Ahmed Attia. - Responsible for managing the visual identity project for El-Fayoum governorate in the faculty, and the operating teams for visual identity designs from students of the faculty, and the supervisors of the work teams from the faculty members and supporting teams.

 

The meeting dealt with reviewing 6 models of designs that express the visual identity of El-Fayoum Governorate, implemented by faculty members and students of the Faculty of Arts and Design at the university, to choose a design that strongly expresses the visual identity of El-Fayoum Governorate with its natural and historical dimensions, environmental features and all its various heritage features.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, the Governor of El-Fayoum welcomed the delegation of the Faculty of Arts and Design, hoping for more cooperation during the next stage, on clear frameworks, a systematic vision and scientific foundations to implement one of the models of visual identity designs for El-Fayoum Governorate that were reviewed during the meeting to agree on that vision and this visual identity to be executed after. Indeed, he appreciates the efforts of the participants to implement the six proposed designs, which express in a strong, new and attractive way the components and nature of the governorate, inviting all of them to participate in the Tunis Festival of Ceramics and Pottery, which will be organized at the beginning of March 2023.

 

The governor added that the six designs that were done and presented by the Faculty of Arts and Design to express the visual identity of El-Fayoum are a matter of consideration and appreciation, and these designs will be presented to a selected committee that includes specialists from El-Fayoum University, the people of the governorate, its visitors, and people who have never visited the governorate who are concerned with the visual identity. And reviewing what has been done for the visual identity in other governorates, indicating that there will be coordination between the governorate and the ministries of tourism and environment in this regard, explaining that the design that will be chosen and approved will be applied, and it will be expressing the governorate for many years to come.

 

El-Fayoum governor also pointed out that implementing a new vision for the visual identity of the governorate requires effort, deliberation, and an integrated study of all dimensions of the region of El-Fayoum. Because El-Fayoum governorate has a significant tourist role, in addition to the agricultural and desert roles, and the traditional handicrafts. Which makes defining the visual identity of the governorate a matter that necessitates the inclusion of all activities in it, to highlight its features and characteristics, with the aim of promoting the governorate, making it a destination for visitors, as well as spreading the spirit of loyalty and belonging among the people of the region.

 

Thus, Prof. Dr. Tareq Saleh thanked the Governor of El-Fayoum, for giving the faculty this opportunity to implement its vision with designs expressing the new visual identity of El-Fayoum Governorate, hoping for more cooperation during the next stage between the governorate and the faculty in various related fields, indicating that the achievement of the visual identity for El-Fayoum Governorate, came during a period of diligent work, taking into account the essential components of the governorate, "Agricultural-Handicrafts-Tourism"

 

Within this context, the official of the Visual Identity Project Management for El-Fayoum Governorate explained that the implementation of the six visual identity designs for Fayoum Governorate took five months with 45 members of the Faculty of Arts and Design participated in it, consisting of 25 students, 13 teaching assistants and assistant professors, and 7 Professors, and they were divided into teams, and more than 22 main meetings were held in addition to the sub-meetings, pointing out that all work related to visual identity designs is done through the Graphic and Media Arts Department of the faculty.

 

While the supervisors of the working teams on visual identity designs for El-Fayoum Governorate reviewed the six designs that were implemented, which included a logo for the governorate that expresses the identity and history of El-Fayoum as the heart of Egypt, defining the personality of the governorate through its colour elements and natural components, and transforming those elements and colours into aesthetic symbols expressing the governorate’s identity. By exploiting the symbolism of roaring streams, pigeon towers, Lake Qarun, Al-Rayyan Falls, Wadi Al-Hitan, historical monuments, heritage crafts, ceramics and pottery industry, the famous cultivations, and rural houses, and coordinating all these symbols in works of art that express El-Fayoum Governorate, With the aim of helping reduce visual pollution and promoting tourism nationally and internationally.

 

The designs of the visual identity of the Fayoum Governorate also included the implementation of artistic murals that express the features of the governorate and posters at the governorate’s entrances, squares and main streets, with the addition of distinctive elements to preserve all the necessities that we use in our daily lives, such as guiding signs, advertising banners, flags, publications, means of transportation, and entry tickets to touristic sites, bus rides, T-shirts, uniforms, seals, agendas, notebooks, advertising tools, etc. In addition to implementing models of visual identity in tourist and archaeological sites, as well as designing a website expressing the identity of the governorate in order to establish the visual identity of the governorate for its visitors, and spread the spirit of loyalty and belonging among its people, and promote its tourist destinations.
