Pharmacognosy Department Scientific Day

Plant derived substances have recently become of great interest owing to their versatile applications. Medicinal plants represent the richest bio-resources of drugs in traditional systems of medicine, modern medicines, nutraceuticals, food supplements, folk medicines, pharmaceutical intermediates and chemical entities for synthetic drugs.

 

Moreover, marine natural products are important sources of biologically active agents, and various bioactive compounds have been extracted from marine organisms like tunicates, sponges, soft corals, and molluscs.

 

To shed light on the importance of medicinal and marine plants, the students’ assignments in the various courses of Pharmacognosy Department talked about the importance of plants and their products and modern applications for extracting active substances, in addition to a presentation of the clinically approved marine natural products for treatment of various diseases in the pharmaceutical market.

 

The best assignments in the courses of medicinal plants (PHG111), Chemistry of Natural Products 2 (PHG322) and Marines Natural Products (PHG402) were awarded a certificate for appreciation In the Pharmacognosy Department Scientific Day 21st December 2023. The Head of the Pharmacognosy Department also honored the teaching assistants and assistant lectures, in addition to the distinguished department staff members certificates for appreciation for their efforts, dedication and endless help to students.
