Green Rural Houses Project Wins Top Honor at COP28

The Green Rural Houses project participated in the COP28 Climate Change Conference held in the United Arab Emirates from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

 

The project won first place in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the Small Projects category (Haya Kareema). It was implemented in the city of Al Kharga as part of a collaboration protocol between MSA University and the New Valley Governorate.

 

Dr. Nermeen Abdelgalil, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering, participated in sessions and meetings organized by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development at the Climate Conference. This included a session titled "Accelerating Multilevel Action for Sustainable Smart Urban Expansion," attended by Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Planning for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, Initiatives, and General Coordinator of the Initiative, along with distinguished attendees. The session featured discussions with project owners who were winners in the second round of the initiative.

 

The project was discussed with Dr. Hala El Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mahmoud Mohy El-Din, Climate Champion for the Egyptian Presidency, and several directors and representatives from UN-Habitat, UNDP, UNIDO, the Center of Sustainable Development at Columbia University (CSD), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
